*** Congratulations Jo Crawford – ADI Part 2 Success ***

A superb result for Jo Crawford, as she passed her ADI Part 2 test at Reigate DTC this afternoon. Jo has worked hard to fit in enough training to pass Parts 1 and 2 within a couple of months and has already started working towards the final stage of her qualifying exam. Congratulations Jo: a very well deserved result. Onwards!! 🙂

*** Oh wow, Kirsty Goss! You did it!! ***

I can’t explain in words just how proud I am of this young lady! It’s taken a while, but Kirsty gradually overcame her enormous fears of driving, one by one, to pass her driving test in Sevenoaks today.

Kirsty had lessons with other trainers before I met her, but was incredibly scared to drive in even the lightest traffic. We worked on finding solutions to each of the things she found tricky: there were quite a list to start with!! Getting ‘lost’ on roundabouts and anything that meant the car needed to reverse were probably amongst the most tricky, but ultimately we found ways around these difficulties. Even when she had a bit of confidence in her driving abilities, we needed to come up with a plan that would work on test day. Ensuring she had hand signals for all directions and would be asked to follow signs at roundabouts and during the 10 minutes of independent driving element of the test, were essential. So, with all this in place,  we turned up at the test centre yesterday……..only to be told that the test was cancelled as no examiner was available!! Another date was offered in a couple of weeks time, but this meant that the ‘full licence’ would be too late for a career opportunity deadline next week! Luckily she found a cancellation today…….. and the rest, as they say, is history!!

You overcame all of those nerves and kept it together….. Well done Kirsty xx

*** 2nd February 2017 ***

A last minute rearranged day, following a DVSA cancelled test yesterday which we managed to book again for today!! Thanks to those that have shifted their lessons to allow this happen xx …….. My day starts in Biggin Hill with a young lady who asked me to send her text reminders to do some theory related revision this week: I wonder if it worked for her?? Driving will be addressing whatever she feels she needs to go over: reading road markings in unfamiliar areas was something she was interested in at the end of our last lesson…… Then a driving test with a driver for whom we’ve asked the examiner to help with specific direction instructions and to use the ‘following signs’ option for the independent driving section of the test, as a string of instructions would be a complete nonsense for this driver!! …… Then working with a client in Borough Green who has come along well, despite learning difficulties that would hold many back. He works so hard!! 🙂

*** Congratulations Suzi Shettle ***

Suzi is a young mum whose ultimate goal was to overcome her anxieties, pass her driving test and feel able to drive with her daughter in the car.

It has taken a while to find strategies that kept her calm but still able to function in busy traffic……. she did it though!!! After finding out that the morning driving tests in Reigate had been cancelled due to fog, we felt really lucky to get out on test early this afternoon!! Suzi passed her driving test with just 2 driving faults and completed the reversing manoeuvre she least liked!! Goodness I’m proud!! 🙂

*** 17th January 2017 ***

A long and pretty diverse working day today!! I’m meeting a lady in West Wickham this morning, who has developed a massive fear of motorway driving, since her husband passed away a few years ago. I’m not too sure how to help her yet, but we’ll start by looking at the emotions that trigger this fear and try to get to the bottom of what it is all about……  Then over to Haxted to work with a nervous driver approaching test, who would like to feel more confident about reversing……After that, I am off to Reigate to work with an anxious young mum with dyspraxic tendencies. We are working on finding ways to manage a sequence of tasks at the same time, while keeping the car moving in the right place and at the right speed. …… and then finishing with an ADI Part 2/3 training session. I’m hoping to add some useful hints and tips for driving and effectively teaching the reversing manoeuvres.

*** 15th January 2017 ***

Sunday is the start of my working week!! We’re continuing to look at strategies to help a lady with memory and planning issues, by discussing how she copes successfully in other areas of her life and adapting those to driving tasks. She has found this beneficial in recent weeks……. Later I’m supporting an autistic lad who needs extra time to process information. By stopping and chatting at the kerb and making sure he has all the information he needs, he can drive three or four junctions completely independently now. Although we can effectively manage noise levels inside the car, now we are using slightly busier areas and we’ve found that we’ve needed to explore different ways to cope with this!!……. My final autistic guy of the day has only just started driving. Last week was mainly about ensuring he felt absolutely safe, with the correct amount of support to keep him calm. We’ll continue using his quiet area of choice today and ensure he doesn’t feel overloaded, but achieves what he wants from the session.

Today in Sutton a deafening scream was heard as Milly was successful in passing her driving test, after lessons with 1nfluence’s Phil and initially taught by Lorna Dunne, who unfortunately couldn’t complete Milly’s passage through to test.
